PDC2 – Risk Assessment Bootcamp for Semiconductor Industry: Prevention of Incidents, Injuries, Illnesses

1pm-5pm

Andrey Korchevskiy
(Chemistry & Industrial Hygiene, Inc.)

Risk assessment is one of the cutting-edge tools to address potential environmental and occupational health problems related to high-tech industries. Evaluation of health risks gives industrial hygienists and environmental professionals an opportunity to deal with unknown and emerging hazards, establish internal standards, as well as determine priorities among all factors affecting wellbeing of workers, including measures to prevent industrial incidents, workplace injuries, and occupational diseases. This PDC will involve the audience in an intensive 4-hour review of the case studies, demonstrating how semiconductor industry personnel can use advanced risk assessment methods in their practice. The participants will learn the quantitative risk assessment paradigm and see how it can be used to evaluate carcinogenic and not-carcinogenic effects of a specific exposure profile. The audience will become acquainted with a benchmark dose methodology, allowing to calculate dose-response coefficients for the workplace toxic agents. The interactive case study will be presented, involving the participants into computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of the explosive/flammable gas leak at a semiconductor facility. The audience will also be familiarized with the most up-to-date application of chaos theory and analysis of temporal trends in health and safety statistics, to research the peculiarities of decision-making in the complex and unstable circumstances. The class materials will be based on case studies intended to refresh the audience’s knowledge on various workplace and environmental hazards typical for semiconductor industry.
