In 2005, the U.S. EPA promulgated the new AERMOD air dispersion model as a replacement to the existing Industrial Source Complex (ISC) model. As of December 2006, all refined air dispersion modeling analyses conducted for regulatory purposes must be performed using AERMOD. The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the basic theory behind AERMOD, to highlight some of the unique features of this model, and to compare and contrast AERMOD with its predecessor, ISC. A case study will be presented in which modeling results obtained using AERMOD for a semiconductor facility will be compared with results obtained for the same facility using ISC and SCREEN3. The effect of different emission source representations on the modeling results will also be discussed.
