Risks and Code Compliance Challenges with Large Fab Construction and Operations

Vincent DeGiorgio & Steven Trammell

Many new semiconductor fabrication facilities are being designed a built to scales much larger than existing facilities. Drivers for this increase in size are partially due to the need for higher volume production, larger sizes of manufacturing equipment and in general, the need for greater economies of scale. To support these larger facilities, infrastructure and support systems are also upsizing to provide the needed utilities, chemistries, and requirements for material handling. This presentation will provide an overview of construction and operational risks associated with large fabs and compliance challenges associated with existing fire and building code requirements.
