Terrorism: Effective Preparation and Response

Sherin, B.
(ESHconnect)

This professional development course is designed to increase the depth of knowledge of emergency planners and responders who may be confronted with the challenges of terrorism at industrial facilities, specifically semiconductor operations. The focus will be on nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) terrorism incidents. We will conduct two tabletop exercises on responding to a NBC Terrorist incident at a semiconductor facility (e.g., a chemical incident and a bioterrorism incident).

Following its completion, the participants should be able to:
– Review recent history involving the use of these weapons
– Understanding the threat
– Recognize the signs and symptoms of NBC exposures (frequently these will be the first indication of an attack)
– Know what methods of self-protection should be used in response to a terrorist incident involving NBC to employ
– Understand the implications of the emergency scene as a crime scene
