The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) has been adopted by the United Nations. Countries around the world are now considering implementation of this approach to classify health, physical, and environmental hazards of chemicals; convey information on labels; and prepare (material) safety data sheets. The GHS will be described. The status of GHS implementation in the United States and in other countries will also be discussed.
