Execution of Environment, Safety, and Health (ESH) initiatives relies on disseminating a vast array of information to numerous users throughout the organization. The need for accurate ESH information extends well beyond the ESH department and includes marketing, sales, and design engineering. Communicating this increasing volume of data is a significant challenge. This paper provides a detailed case study of the innovative intranet-based tools one equipment supplier is using to convey this rapidly changing data-set. Numerous examples of actual web pages are provided. Insights are presented on how to structure pages so they are convenient and easily accessible. Particular emphasis is placed on facilitating “design for safety” utilizing an on-line engineering product design guide. The benefits of achieving the never-ending goal of keeping users informed and up to date are then discussed.
