Navigating TSCA Compliance and Program Development
August 14, 2024 - Navigating the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) regulations can be confusing and complex. TSCA was first enacted in 1976 and contains the compliance requirements for both the TSCA inventory (containing over 86,000 chemicals) and the TSCA Section 6 restrictions list, which is expected to rapidly expand over the next several years. Developing a compliance program is essential to ensuring that the risks posed to human health and the environment by manufactured or imported chemical substances are identified and adequately addressed prior to production or transport of those substances into the United States. This presentation provides a basic overview of the TSCA regulations and the presenter’s experience with developing a corporate compliance program.

Advances in Occupational Health & Safety monitoring and data visualization
July 10, 2024 - Ensuring worker safety in the semiconductor manufacturing industry has always been challenging and time consuming. This session will cover several topics on how innovations in monitoring technology, data visualization, and reporting can improve your ability to quickly detect, analyze, and manage the risks that workers face. In the presentation, we will review advances in Noise Dosimetry and how these can be used in survey and continuous monitoring; data visualization tools that map out the measured risk in manufacturing facilities; and advances in easily deployable handheld devices and multi-parameter sensor modules for use in occupational health & safety investigation surveys and indoor air quality assessments.

NEPA Requirements Associated with Department of Commerce CHIPs Program Office Funding
June 12, 2024 - The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) (42 U.S.C. 4321 et seq.) requires federal agencies to consider the effects of proposed actions on the human environment. The Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) has issued regulations to implement NEPA (40 CFR Parts 1500–1508) that apply to all federal agencies. Funding decisions being completed for semiconductor manufacturing and support facilities resulting from the CHIPs and Science Act represent federal actions for which NEPA is applicable. The CHIPS Program Office (CPO), on behalf of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is responsible for any required environmental review under the NEPA. While CPO is responsible for the accuracy, scope, and content of any required NEPA documents, applicants are required to participate in the environmental review process and are often tasked with the primary development of NEPA documents. The webinar will provide an overview of the NEPA implementation process and the evolving processes being utilized by CPO for NEPA review and practical considerations for NEPA project planning for CHIPS funding applicants.
