In today’s increasingly competitive environment and tight economy, SESHA environmental managers have to “make the business case” to their top-management for any sustainability program they wish to implement. This paper provides an overview of the main sustainability frameworks used today to improve both your company’s environmental impacts and its bottom line. The ever-growing importance of regional initiatives will be illustrated by two well-established Californian programs: Sustainable Silicon Valley (SSV) and the Green Business Program. After providing some guidance on how to choose the best-suited sustainability framework, this article will conclude by highlighting what next steps are necessary for a successful implementation.
