Potential Risks and Challenges of Working With Chlorine Trifluoride

Due to the hazardous and reactive nature of CIF3, multiple risks and challenges face the engineering team when designing, installing and operating a safe storage and distribution system for CIF3. This article briefly summarizes some of the important and fundamental risks and challenges; physical properties, materials of construction, storage and distribution system design, system startup and ongoing operations, manufacturing equipments using CIF3, and personnel training, that need to be addressed in the design, installation and ongoing operation of a CIF3 storage and distribution systems. Much of the information contained herein is from previously published articles, vendor literature and other information sources.
