The Basics of a Successful Incident Recovery

This article summarizes a presentation made by the author at a series of mini-workshops sponsored by SSA, SEMI, SIA, and International SEMATECH during August and September 1999. The focus of these workshops was “Business Contingency, Incident Recovery, and Y2K Planning in the High Tech Industry.” The author’s hypothesis is that regardless of the amount of prevention work, accidents and incidents are inevitable in manufacturing organization (even without the threat of Y2K); therefore, incident Recovery Planning should be a key element in the Business Continuity Planning and Recovery (BCPR) process. In addition, the relationship between the semiconductor wafer fab operator, original equipment manufacturer (OEM), and recovery specialist is critical to a successful and timely incident recovery.
