Health hazards in the microelectronics industry have, in the past, been seen as limited to chemical or physical agents. In the latter part of the 20th century there has been greater recognition of the role played by infectious agents. This presentation addresses the properties and control measures associated with infectious agents in the microelectronics workplace and its workers. The formation of an infection control plan for such a workplace is described, with particular attention to SARS, bloodborne pathogens, tuberculosis and emerging infectious agents.
