LoginThe Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) began with the premise that existing systems should be harmonized in order to develop a single, globally harmonized system to address classification of chemicals, labels, and material safety data sheets. While the implementation of the GHS represents a major step improvement in hazard communications, how individual countries are applying the GHS is not completely harmonious. Key steps necessary for incorporating the Global Harmonized System (GHS) into a hazard communication program for an electronics company will be discussed in this session. The emphasis will be on the changes to (M)SDSs and chemical labels that need to be communicated during hazard communication training. Differences between how the UN version of the GHS is being implemented in Europe under the CLP and REACH, and how it will be implemented in the US under OSHA will also be covered.
