One of the challenges facing the occupational health and EHS professional in the semiconductor industry is to be prepared to understand the potential health effects of chemicals in use, both to respond to possible employee concerns and in a preventive context. Given the multitude of chemicals used and the regular introduction of new and sometimes esoteric chemicals, no individual can be aware of these properties for all chemicals, nor will any textbook contain all of this information. The objective of this presentation is to share a simple, systematic, and real-time approach to searching for needed information in the online toxicology literature. The presentation will focus on tools that are readily available and complimentary. Through actual examples, the presentation will demonstrate how to answer common questions, including the ability of a chemical to cause a particular symptom or to lead to adverse reproductive effects.
