Joe Cascio – Global Environment & Technology Foundation, Gayle Woodside – IBM (SSA Journal Volume 10 Number 3 – Fall 1996 pp. 17 – 22 )

The document entitled “Environmental Management Systems Specification with Guidance for Use,” ISO 14001, is and was meant to be the most important standard in the ISO 14000 series. This is the standard which lays out the elements of the management system that organizations are required to conform to if they seed ISO registration. This paper defines the five major elements of the standard and provides guidance for implementing an integrated environmental management system. Much of the text contains information form the authors’ book, ISO 14000 Guide: The New International Environmental Management Standards.
