In Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) environments, a routine process can quickly turn into an invisible hazard: nitrogen releases can rapidly displace oxygen, creating severe asphyxiation risks before operators even realize there is a leak.
While nitrogen is essential as both an inerting gas and a p-type dopant to enhance material properties, managing its safety is a fine science. If oxygen concentrations drop below the 19.5% IDLH (Immediate Danger to Life or Health) threshold, every second counts.

Dr. Naranjo is director of sales at Kenexis. He previously held leadership roles at Honeywell, Emerson, and MSA. He is an ISA Fellow and has served on the Executive Board of the International Society of Automation (ISA). He has published 21 technical articles and received numerous honors, including the ISA Division Leader Excellence award.

He holds a PhD and BS in Chemical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara and Caltech, respectively, and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
