J. Michael (Mike) Sherer, P.E. – SESHA Fellow

Mike Sherer is the Principal of Sherer Consulting Services, Inc. Mike specializes in environmental technical projects in the semiconductor and related industries with his core technical focus on point-of-use abatement devices, exhaust management, centralized scrubbers, centralized volatile organic compound control equipment, air permitting, calculating process air emissions, and wastewater. Formerly, Mike worked for ATMI where he was responsible for providing technical support to customers including process exhaust management reviews with recommended solutions and cost reduction strategies.

Mike was also responsible for ATMI relationships with key semiconductor industry associations such as SESHA, SIA, SEMI, SEMATECH, TSIA, etc. Prior to ATMI, Mike was the Environmental, Health and Safety Technology, Strategies and Engineering Support manager for Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector in Phoenix, Arizona where he provided his semiconductor environmental expertise to several international sites in Asia, Europe and Mexico. Mike’s career also includes three months as a compliance manager for the state air regulatory agency in Phoenix, Arizona and over two years in environmental consulting in Tucson, Arizona. Mike’s career started with the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, N.Y., where he worked as environmental engineer and as environmental group leader specializing in air quality projects, hazardous waste and Toxic Release Inventory Section 313 reporting.

Mike has served SESHA in many roles including President and Region/Chapter Liaison. Mike served on the SESHA Board for four and one-half years, ending his term in 2004, yet he has continued to support the Board as Region/Chapter Liaison. Mike also continues to remain active on the Arizona Chapter’s Steering Committee.

Mike has a BS in Chemical Engineering from University of Arizona and his MS in Chemical Engineering from University of Rochester, NY. He is a Professional Engineer licensed in Chemical Engineering in the State of Arizona.

Mike is a published author and his works include Semiconductor Industry: Wafer Fab Exhaust Management published by CRC Press. He lives in Gilbert, Arizona with his wife Mary and their three daughters. He enjoys fishing, consulting, and many church activities.
