In order to have a truly successful in EHS management system it is important that corporations develop EHS goals that are international in scope, endorsed by top management, and understood and embraced by key operating groups. Over the past seven years, the goal setting process at Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. has evolved from a relatively autocratic, independent process to a system that now involves EHS personnel from all manufacturing sites worldwide and top-level executive review and approval. Of particular importance to the process is the review and discussion of key goals with business organizations that are critical to successful performance with respect to those goals. Business groups are asked to incorporate key EHS goals into their own long range goal setting process.
