Shah, Rajesh; Olson, Eric
(The Natural Step, San Francisco, CA)

What does ESH have to do with sustainability? How can ESH expertise influence core strategy? The Natural Step Introductory Course on Sustainability is designed for people interested in learning how to use systems thinking, apply it to their ESH duties, and incorporate it into their company’s business strategy. Attendees will receive instruction in The Natural Step’s principles of sustainability, the framework, and methodology. We will describe the business case for sustainability-focused strategy and operations working through examples. We will go over various risks facing the hi-tech industry and view them through the lens of sustainability. Attendees will explore how to analyze impacts and flows, identify potential initiatives, look at necessary metrics and indicators for monitoring and reporting progress, and design the core elements of an action plan.
