Michael Williams
Michael Williams is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Risk Manager (ARM), and Registered Environmental Assessor (REA) in the State of California. He has over twenty-five years of comprehensive experience in environmental health & safety in private industry, consulting and public regulatory agencies. He worked as a Senior Industrial Hygienist/Special Deputy Assistant for Health for Cal/OSHA and as an Industrial Hygienist for Federal OSHA, has held corporate positions at Apple Computer, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and American Microsystems, Inc. (AMI), and is a recognized expert in the semiconductor and electronics industries.
Mike is active in the Semiconductor Environmental Safety & Health Association (SESHA), and was inducted as SESHA Fellow in 1999. Mike is also a member of the AIHA, ASSE, and BAESG associations. For over ten years he was a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal and is currently on the SESHA Journal Editorial Board. He is an EH&S instructor at the University of California Extension program, Davis campus, presenting H&S courses in Penang, Malaysia and at the U.C. Berkeley campus on Semiconductor Processing, Health & Safety Hazards/Controls.
Mike was the primary author of Cal/OSHA’s highly regarded Semiconductor Industry Study that was published in 1981. In 1996, Mike published the Semiconductor Industrial Hygiene Handbook (Noyce Publications), with co-author David Baldwin. He is certified as an 1S0 14000 EMS Lead Auditor and is the chapter editor of the Semiconductor and Microelectronics section of the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Encyclopedia of Occupational Health & Safety (4th Edition). Additionally, he is the chapter co-author of the Semiconductor Manufacturing in Occupational, Industrial, and Environmental Toxicology (Mosby/Elsevier Science Publications, 2003).
Mike has a Master of Science (MS) and a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from UC Berkeley in Environmental Health Sciences and Industrial Hygiene. He has an undergraduate degree in Health Science/Environmental Health Sciences, with a minor in Chemistry.
Mike currently is the owner of Health Safety & Risk Management Services (HSRMS), an EH&S consulting firm specializing in the semiconductor/electronics industries, in the areas of operational support, program development and expert witness testimony. He also performs specialized recruiting of EH&S/product safety personnel in high technology and support industries. Mike is also active in his community in Sunnyvale and a graduate of their Leadership Sunnyvale program.
