Development of Effective ESH Educational Programs (Part I)

How many times have we concluded a training session and asked ourselves these very probing questions:
– Did I reach my audience?
– Will behavior be impacted?
– Will the skills be used on the job?
Training is one of the cornerstones of an effective environmental, safety and health (ESH) program. Development and implementation of an effective training program will greatly influence the success of the ESH organization. In this workshop, we will review what the experts consider to be the attributes of effective learning. We will review instructional design criteria guidelines based upon guidance from leading experts including Robert Gagné, Brandon Hall, Barbara Seels, and Zita Glasgow, addressing issues such as adult learning theories, motivational strategies, and the like. We will review the four levels of the Kirkpatrick Model, which is often considered the standard to use when evaluating training effectiveness. In addition to the development and implementation of excellent content, we will discuss the administration of an effective ESH training program. Lastly, we will conclude the session by leading a discussion how technology tools are impacting the educational process, including synchronous, asynchronous and blended learning techniques.

This is the first part in a two part PDC. It is suggested that participants completing this session should take the second part: – Developing A Business Case for Training Within a Semiconductor Operation – which will be conducted in the afternoon.
